Car Insurance
Welcome to our web site about car insurance, our
objective is to provide you with the most comprehensive
collection of car insurance information available
anywhere on the Internet.
In the UK, it is illegal to drive without car insurance.
Although amazingly in a recent survey by whatcar.com a
staggering 20% of respondents admitted to driving without
insurance.
Uninsured drivers are a huge burden on all of us, they are
estimated to cost an additional £30 per insurance premium, per
law abiding driver. This amounts to an industry cost of £500m
per year.
As a result, the government has recently announced a crack
down on uninsured drivers. The tough measures being considered
for law are:
- It will become an offence to own a car without having
insurance, police and government agencies will use
computers to release fines automatically.
- In the event of repeat offence or non payment of fines,
it is proposed that the car is confiscated and
crushed.
- New roadside cameras will be able to monitor and
identify cars without insurance from their number plates, a
trial of this new technology is already being rolled out in
South England.
The benefits of these new measures will hopefully be a drop
in car insurance costs.
Never say to yourself that because you are such a good
driver you do not need to have insurance. You could be the best
driver in the world, however that does not mean that all of the
other driver’s sharing the road are, an accident can happen at
any time. Regardless of whose fault it is, you will be breaking
the law if you do not have adequate car insurance cover.
Lowering your car insurance costs
As the old saying goes, it certainly pays to shop around.
This is even truer when it comes to buying car insurance or
renewing an existing policy. We’ve detailed below our top tips
for getting the most value for money when it comes to care
insurance:
- Prices will vary depending on insurer, if you have the
time (it will pay off in the end) try to get about 5 quotes
for your insurance. It’s possible to receive a car
insurance quote via the Internet or via their telephone
line.
- Never automatically renew your insurance with your
existing insurance company, research suggests that by
shopping around at renewal time you can save as much as
£112 on your car insurance.
- Consider increasing the voluntary excess you would pay
should you have an accident, insurance companies often
reduce the policy amount in these situations.
- Consider different types of car insurance companies.
Some car insurance companies, specialise in the provision
of certain type of insurance, for example driver’s under
the age of 25 or women drivers.
- If you’re in the market for a new car, always check the
insurance costs before completing your purchase.
- Negotiate a deal for including other forms of insurance
with the same company, for example home contents or pet
insurance.
- Purchase from a car insurance provider that sells
direct to the consumer rather than through a broker. This
will cut out the middle man and often give you additional
savings.
